Maybe this post is more for me than anyone else, so you'll have to bare with me as I go down memory lane.
***************************
Just thinking about Thanksgiving already next week, and I went back to find the last time I was w/ my grandparents for the holiday. It was 2003. Up until 4 months ago, all 3 were still living, but at the time I'm writing this, I'm not sure if I'll have any this year.....
Grandpa Woodrow passed away on Halloween. For most of my life I've lived w/in 5 miles of him, even lived w/ him & grandma for a year.
I can honestly say it was one of the best wkend's of my life. Strange way to describe a funeral wkend, I guess, but to see his influence and to be with family & friends (that all are mine to enjoy & be a part of BECAUSE of him & grandma) it just makes me so grateful for what he's done to make my life what it is.
Grandpa's life was & is so inspiring.
Here's Grandma Irete with the Grandkids and the flag at the military cemetary.
Next picture is Tim, Rowan & Grandma at McDonald's. Grandma wanted to eat at McDonald's before we all headed home. Pretty fitting, as one of my favorite childhood memories is how we'd always stop for a McDonald's ice-cream cone after church, and I'd sit between grandma & grandpa (back when we could still sit on the hump in the front seat!) and we'd sing "More About Jesus". (smile)
Don't you just want to squeeze him ?
We spent 4 days at Aunt Nita's & Uncle Derald's.....many fun memories were

Kayla -- I'm here for you. I lost my last surviving grandparent in January. It was around this time last year that I last saw her, so I have been reflecting myself. There's nothing quite like the love of a grandparent. xoxo Shelly
